Woman dies, groom hurt in road mishap
BETTIAH, May 12 -- A middle-aged woman died, and three others-including a bridegroom-were critically injured when the driver of an SUV lost control and ran over a group of women heading for a wedding-related ritual in Raxaul town of East Champaran district on Saturday evening, police said.
According to police, the incident occurred when the women, along with the bridegroom, had left the marriage venue at Naya Tola near the Purhaiya area to perform the Matkor ritual at a petrol pump near the ICP Bypass, under the jurisdiction of Haraiya police station.
"A speeding SUV knocked down the group, killing one woman on the spot and injuring three others, including the bridegroom," said Kisan Kumar Paswan, Station House Officer (SHO) of Haraiya police station.
The deceased has been identified as Gayatri Devi. The injured have been admitted to the ICU ward of Duncan Hospital in Raxaul.
Speaking to the media, the bridegroom's father, Uttim Pandit, said that his daughter was scheduled to marry Vikash Kumar, a resident of Kabshi Thod in Nepal, on Sunday when the tragedy struck....
