SAHARSA, April 28 -- A 40-year-old woman allegedly poisoned her five children before consuming it herself at Bhagwanpur village under Banma Itahari police station area of Bihar's Saharsa district following a heated exchange with her mother-in-law over a property dispute, police said Monday. Hearing the commotion late Sunday, their neighbours rushed all six to district hospital and informed police. "Given their critical condition, they were sent to a higher centre," they added. The woman and her children are now undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Saharsa. Station house officer (SHO) Subodh Kumar said the children include three daughters aged six, 13 and 14 and five-year-old twin sons. "We are trying our best," the doctor treating them said, adding "The condition of the twins is very delicate and they have been put on ventilators." Kumar said, "Police are investigating the case from all possible angles. The woman's husband is a migrant worker in Delhi. We have informed him and he is on his way home. The woman's mother-in-law fled the scene soon after the incident and efforts are on to trace her." Sources close to the family said, "Following the altercation, the woman in a fit of rage mixed poison into the milk, gave it to her children and then consumed it herself." A child somehow opened the house's main door and reached the neighbours for help."...
