Patna, June 10 -- A 42-year-old woman and her 22-year-old daughter were gunned down by three unidentified assailants in Alamganj area of Patna in Bihar on Monday morning, police said, adding that the victim's husband sustained severe bullet injuries. The deceased have been identified as Mahalakshmi Mehta, a retired nurse of the Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) here, and her daughter Santhali Kumari. Mahalakshmi's husband Dhananjay Mehta sustained multiple bullet injuries on his hands and feet, and is undergoing treatment at NMCH, police said. According to SSP Awakas Kumar, the incident took place around 9.15am in Afrabad Colony in Alamganj police station limits when the bike-borne assailants opened fire at the victims' house. "The incident took place when three of a family were standing outside their house and three bike-borne assailants appeared at the spot and fired indiscriminately. Mahalakshmi received a bullet into her head while her daughter received multiple injuries on her head and chest. Both were rushed to NMCH with the help of locals and family members where two of them were declared brought dead. Dhananjay, meanwhile, is undergoing treatment and his condition is stable,," said the SSP, adding that the assailants had been identified and previous criminal records found. An SIT was constituted under the supervision of City SP (East) to investigate the matter throughly and nab the accused earliest. While the motive behind the murder was yet to be ascertained, police said preliminary investigations had revealed that the family was involved in a dispute with their neighbour over some personal issue....
