Will respond to EC notice on voter ID, says Tejashwi
PATNA, Aug. 6 -- RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Tuesday said that he will respond to EC's notice which was sent to him over a voter ID he showed in a press conference and that if "irregularities" in Bihar voter draft roll are not corrected, he will approach the Supreme Court.
The EC had said that the voter ID showed by RJD leader during his last week's press conference was not officially issued.
"A response will be given. What is the big deal? Election Commission should tell us about several voters who have been left out," Tejashwi Yadav told mediapersons in state capital.
He also added that evidence-based complaints would be submitted to the EC.
A complaint has been filed against Tejashwi Yadav at Digha Police Station in Patna, alleging that he holds two Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs). The complaint was submitted by an advocate, Rajiv Ranjan, who has requested that appropriate legal action be initiated.
Addressing a press conference in Patna, Yadav had alleged, "My name is not there in the electoral roll. How will I contest the elections?"
The leader of Opposition in Bihar assembly, however, demanded that the Election Commission of India (EC) should answer for "several voters who have been left out" in the draft electoral rolls in Bihar.
"Names of 50 people from the same household have been added. There are several such discrepancies by the Election Commission. We will send the same to the Election Commission and present our side before the court," he said.
Union Minister and LJP (Ram Vilas) President Chirag Paswan charged the RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, of involvement in "duplicity of votes".
"Who is giving rise to this situation of doubt? As an LoP in Bihar, he conducts a press conference and complains that his name is not there in the electoral roll," Paswan said on Tuesday in New Delhi.
"The EC immediately refuted his claims and released the whole list, in which his name was also there. Now questions arise whether he has two voter IDs. If that is the case, it is extremely worrisome. This has been a concern of the Election Commission and the opposition. You are involved in duplicacy of votes, something you made allegations against..."
He was asked about the allegations made by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on the Election Commission.
The Election Commission on Tuesday said that since the Bihar draft voter list was published on August 1, no political party has approached it for inclusion or deletion of names of individuals from the rolls.
The draft roll will be available till September 1 for claims and objections under which parties and individuals can seek inclusion of eligible citizens left out and exclusion of those they believe are ineligible.
The EC said between 3 PM on August 1 and 3 PM on August 5 (Tuesday), no booth-level agent appointed by parties has approached poll authorities in the claims and objections procedure.
"The Election Commission is repeatedly saying that no eligible voter should be left out and no ineligible voter should be added. Register your claims and objections in the draft voter list released on August 1.
"So far no political party has given a single claim or objection," a poll authority official pointed out.
An EC bulletin said 2864 individuals have approached it so far for inclusion or removal of names....
