SASARAM, May 31 -- In a heart-rending incident, a widow and her unmarried daughter were brutally stabbed and killed, while the younger daughter was critically injured in Lewada village under the Nokha police station area of Rohtas district in the early hours of Friday. Police said the critically injured girl is battling for her life at BHU Varanasi under police protection. The deceased were identified as Santara Devi (60) and her elder daughter Rupali Kumari (22). Doctors at BHU Varanasi are trying to save the seriously injured and unconscious younger daughter, Amrita Kumari (18). Police said the victims had been repeatedly stabbed in the head and sensitive parts of the body. On Friday morning, villagers discovered the three lying unconscious and soaked in blood in a field outside the village and immediately informed the Nokha police. The police rushed them to the nearest government hospital, where doctors declared the mother and elder daughter dead. Police believe the aim of the attackers was to kill the widow and her two unmarried daughters. Santara Devi's husband had died earlier, and she supported her two daughters through farming and working as a labourer. Out of her six daughters, four are married and live with their in-laws. On Thursday night, Santara Devi had gone with her daughters to listen to a discourse at a yagya being held in the village. Neighbours saw her returning home late at night, but no one saw how she ended up in the field or who killed her and why. The door of the woman's house was found locked from the outside, and there were no signs of blood or violence inside the house, police said. Police suspect the incident could be related to property issues. The victim's son-in-law and other relatives are under police scrutiny. Rohtas Superintendent of Police, Roshan Kumar, said that after Prime Minister Narendera Modi's programme, a special investigation team, along with FSL experts and sniffer dogs, had been sent to the scene for scientific investigation....
