West Champaran: Woman critically injured by bear in Valmiki Reserve
BETTIAH, March 23 -- A 40-year-old woman was critically injured after being attacked by a bear in a forested area on the fringes of Dumari forest range of Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR) in Bihar's West Champaran district on Sunday, triggering panic among villagers.
According to forest department officials, the incident occurred when the woman, identified as Babita Devi, 40, wife of Madhura Choudhary reached on the outskirts of her native village Bagahi Sukhawani village under Goverdhana police station area of West Champaran on Sunday afternoon.
The bear allegedly emerged suddenly from dense vegetation and attacked him, said officials.
"Yes, a woman has been injured by a sloth bear,,while she was collecting fodder for her livestocks," said Rajesh Ram, range officer of Dumari range.
People familiar with the matter said the animal escaped into the forest after local villagers rushed to her rescue upon hearing her cries for help. The woman suffered injuries to the legs, face, and upper part of body.
The injured woman Babita Devi was initially taken to Community Health Centre (CHC) at Ramnagar from where she was referred to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) at Bettiah.
Her condition is stated to be critical....
