Welfare overdrive: Nitish seeks to boost image, silence Oppn
PATNA, June 26 -- In poll-bound Bihar, the NDA government at the Centre and state are on a project inauguration spree. This serves the twin purpose of justifying its development oriented image and also silencing the opposition who are alleging that CM Nitish Kumar was in an "unconscious state", given his health conditions.
The JD(U)-BJP alliance is contesting the state elections on the development plank, citing the number of projects launched both by the state and the Union government. For the BJP, the election slogan is in sync with Centre's policy statement of self-reliance as the party is pitching for 'Atma Nirbhar Bihar'.
While Prime Minister Narenrda Modi, since February, had inaugurated schemes/projects worth Rs.67,900 crore, chief minister Nitish Kumar since his Pragati Yatra ended in February this year, gave wings to about 430 development projects worth Rs.50,000 crores. If that was not enough, the Kumar-led NDA government has made one announcement after another in a bid to appease/target different sections of voters.
The PM started his Bihar visit on February 24 where he released Rs.22,000 crore through DBT (direct benefit transfer) in bank accounts of farmers. For Bihar, 75 lakh farmers got Rs. 1,600 crore through DBT third instalment. He followed this with the inauguration of schemes worth Rs.13,480 crores at Madhubani, Rs.48,520 crore at Karakat and Rs.5,900 crore at Siwan. If BJP top leaders are to be believed, the PM would be making more than six to nine more such visits from July till mid-August.
His alliance partner and Bihar CM Kumar is also matching PM's effort to woo the voters by inaugurating schemes/projects orth more than Rs.6,700 crore since May alone. P3...
