PATNA, Aug. 20 -- A notorious robber was shot at during an encounter with police early on Tuesday under the jurisdiction of Janipur police station, on the outskirts of Patna, officials said. The robber, identified as Deepak Kumar (25), who faces over a dozen criminal cases, was rushed to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for treatment. "Police received a tip-off that Deepak and his associates were planning a major crime around Janipur. A raid was conducted, during which Deepak was chased and caught, while his associates escaped under the cover of darkness," said Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kartikey K Sharma. During interrogation, Deepak confessed to have committed multiple crimes and revealed where he had hidden firearms. When police took him to the location, he allegedly fired a round from a country-made pistol, prompting police to retaliate in self-defence," Sharma said. This was the third such encounter in recent days.
