PATNA, Jan. 3 -- A wanted criminal facing at least eight criminal cases was injured in an encounter with police in the Khagaul area late Thursday night, officials said. Acting on a tip-off that some criminals had assembled in the area, a police team cordoned it off, following which the criminals opened fire, prompting retaliatory firing in which the accused was injured, they said. He was later rushed to AIIMS, where he is undergoing treatment under police custody. The injured accused was identified as Manager Rai, a resident of Didarganj. He is also an accused in the killings of Dr Anwar Alam in Khagaul in 2022 and Nirala Kumar in the Maner area. A country-made pistol, two empty cartridges, two live cartridges and a mobile phone were recovered from the spot, police said.
