BHABUA, Oct. 18 -- A wanted criminal and drug peddler was arrested in Bihar's Kaimur district on Friday, police said. The arrested accused has been identified as Sheru Miyan alias Mohammad Danish Alam, a resident of Chhawani Muhalla locality in Bhabua town. He was nabbed from near Betari village while trying to flee towards Uttar Pradesh in an auto-rickshaw on the Bhabua-Dharauli road, Superintendent of Police (SP) Hari Mohan Shukla said. Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, Ram Lal Mallah alias Ram Lal Chaudhary (30) was shot dead at a public place near Ekta Chowk in the heart of Bhabua. Following the incident, the victim's wife Pratibha Kumari lodged a case under Sections 103(1) and 3(5) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 27 of the Arms Act against Sheru Miyan and four unidentified people. Acting on the complaint, the SP formed a special police team under Bhabua Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Manoranjan Bharti, with assistance from the district intelligence unit. Sheru, described by police as a cunning criminal, avoided using mobile phones and frequently changed vehicles to evade arrest. However, due to intensified security and checking in the wake of the assembly elections, he was unable to escape from the town. On Thursday evening, the police traced him near Betari village. When the team led by SDPO Bharti and Bhabua SHO Mukesh Kumar reached the spot, Sheru tried to flee on foot after abandoning the auto-rickshaw but was chased down and arrested. He later confessed to killing the youth in a fit of rage following a dispute over money. On his identification, police recovered the pistol used in the crime, along with two live cartridges, one empty shell, and a mobile phone.
