VTR: Tigress killed in territorial fight
BETTIAH, May 23 -- A 4-year-old tigress was allegedly killed in a territorial fight with a tiger in the Harnatand forest range of Bihar's Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR), in West Champaran district, forest officials said on Thursday.
Nesamani K, conservator and field director, VTR, said the carcass of the tigress was recovered on Wednesday evening during a routine patrol.
"Prima facie, it appears the tigress died due to injuries sustained in a fight with another tiger. Multiple injury marks were found on her body, and the pugmarks of another big cat were also spotted near the carcass," said Nesamani.
Preliminary observations suggest the attacking tiger could also be around four years old. "However, the exact age and cause of death will be confirmed after a postmortem. Viscera samples will be sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly, and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, for forensic testing," he added....
