Vote shares of parties rise or decline only marginally
PATNA, Nov. 16 -- Even as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) swept the Bihar polls, winning 202 seats, and the opposition Mahagathbandhan led by the RJD-Congress performed poorly, the vote share of the major allies in both coalitions has seen only marginal changes-either a slight rise or decline-compared to the 2020 Assembly elections.
As per a comparative analysis based on Election Commission of India data of 2020 and 2025 elections, the variation in the vote share of major parties ranges from one to four percent .
In the ruling NDA, the BJP, emerging as the largest constituent by winning 89 seats, has got 20.08 percent vote share in this election as compared to 19.46 percent in 2020 polls, when the party had won 74 seats out of 110 seats it contested. This is an increase of 0.62 percent in vote share in this election held on November 6 and November 11. The counting took place on November 14.
Similarly, the Janata Dal (United), another constituent of the NDA, having won 85 seats has got a vote share of 19.25 percent as compared to 15.39 percent vote share in 2020 election, when the key ally of NDA led by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had won 43 seats out of 115 seats. This is an increase of 3.86 vote share for the party in this election. Another major constituent, Lok Janshakti Party ( Ram Vilas) has recorded 4.97 percent of vote share this election.
What is more interesting is that the opposition Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) having won just 25 seats- one of the party's worst performance since 2010 assembly polls when it had won 22 seats- has managed to keep its vote share intact as compared to 2020 assembly polls. Data shows, that the RJD has recorded a vote share of 23.11 percent in this election whereas in 2020, the party had recorded a vote share of 23.11 percent.
Among the other parties, the left parties which are constituents of the opposition INDIA bloc have suffered a decline in vote share as compared to 2020 polls. The CPI-ML(liberation), which has won only two seats, has recorded 2.84 percent vote share as compared to 3.16 percent in 2020 polls, a decline of around 0.32percent.
The CPI having failed to win a single seat this election has got a vote share of 0.74 percent whereas in 2020 polls, the left party had got 0.83 percent vote share by winning two seats. The CPI(M) got 0.60 percent having won only one seat this election whereas in 2020, the party had got 0.65 percent of vote share by winning two seats.
The AIMIM led by Asadhudin Owaisi , having won five seats in this election, has recorded a vote share of 1.85 % as against 1.24 % of vote share earned in 2020 polls, which is a slight increase.
Incidentally, there are indications that there was a slight rise in the NOTA option this election. About 1.81% of votes polled went into this section while in 2020 polls, the option where people did not vote for any candidate or parties in the ballot papers was recorded at 1.68 percent of total votes, data shows.
Meanwhile, there were some tepid responses from leaders of the opposition Mahagathbandhan on Friday regarding the poll debacle of the opposition coalition in this election.
RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, in a post on RJD's facebook account, said that public service was a continuous journey and there are always some ups and downs . He said that RJD is a party of the poor people and would continue to champion their issues by standing with them.
On Saturday, former state president of RJD and senior leader Jagdanand Singh also paid a visit to RJD chief Lalu Prasad's residence and met the ailing RJD patriarch , reports said. Sources said he had discussion with top leaders of the party including Lalu regarding the party's poll debacle in this polls. " The RJD family and all party men are united. We will continue to work unitedly," said Singh, after meeting RJD chief.
RJD's national spokesperson Manoj Jha told reporters in Patna that it's not possible to give a quick response on reasons why the party did not perform as expected or what factors led to its loss. " We feel the mandate has not come in our favour. But isn't the issues like migration, jobs for youths and social security still relevant in Bihar," said Jha, adding that his party would continue to champion these issues .
Another constituent of INDIA bloc, Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP) too made a guarded statement on the results.
Party chief Mukesh Sahani in a social media post said that his party respects the mandate of the people of Bihar and would continue to fight for state's development, rights and social justice'.
"Your trust, support and dialogue have strengthened our commitment,"Sahani said....
