PATNA, July 1 -- The state election office has mobilised 225,590 administrative staff and volunteers for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to strengthen voter list accuracy across all 38 districts, chief electoral officer (CEO) of the state, Vinod Singh Gunjiyal, announced. He said that an army of poll officers and volunteers are helping voters with modalities to ensure it is a smooth and effective campaign. Gunjiyal emphasised that booth level officers (BLOs) have been trained under district election officers to oversee the distribution and collection of pre-filled enumeration forms. Volunteers assist BLOs in filling these forms, with supervisors and sector officers monitoring the process. "We urge citizens to cooperate with BLOs and volunteers to make this campaign a success," Gunjiyal said, highlighting the importance of public participation. The exercise, said state poll officers, is into a war footing mode. The SIR initiative, aimed at ensuring credible elections by chucking out fraudulent and fake voters such as illegal immigrants, includes 81,753 administrative personnel and 143,837 volunteers who are conducting door-to-door surveys at the booth level. The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed the deployment of 20,603 additional polling station officials alongside 77,895 existing ones to manage new polling stations. Over 150,000 booth level agents (BLAs) appointed by political parties are actively verifying voter lists to ensure accuracy. The ECI has advised parties to appoint BLAs promptly to avoid future discrepancies, stressing that timely participation is critical to democratic credibility. Voters can access updates on the SIR campaign through the CEO's social media handles on Facebook, X, and Instagram, or contact the toll-free helpline 1950 for assistance.
