UP-based liquor supplier shot dead, two held
BHABUA, May 11 -- A Uttar Pradesh-based liquor supplier was shot dead and another critically injured after Patna-based liquor smugglers opened indiscriminate fire on them along NH-19 (GT Road) near Khajura market under Durgawati police station in Kaimur district late Friday evening, police said.
Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was linked to the illegal supply of liquor from Haryana and Uttar Pradesh to a Patna-based smuggler, Superintendent of Police (SP) Hari Mohan Shukla said.
The deceased was identified as Tarkeshwar Paswan (28), a resident of Bhatija village under Saiyadraja police station in Chandauli district, Uttar Pradesh. The injured, Krishna Paswan of Jhansi village in the same district, was referred to the BHU Trauma Centre in Varanasi after initial treatment at the Sadar Hospital in Bhabua.
Following the incident, police teams from Durgawati, Ramgarh, and Mohania police stations chased the suspects and intercepted their car near Panapur. Two of the accused-Md Nehal of Phulwari Sharif, Patna, and Santosh Kumar of Ara Town-were arrested. The car, bearing a Muzaffarpur registration number, was also seized. However, the main accused, Md Danish of Phulwari Sharif, and an associate managed to escape under the cover of darkness, police said.
During interrogation, Md Nehal told police that Danish, a known liquor smuggler, had a dispute with Tarkeshwar over supply and payment issues. He said Danish had brought them along to kill Tarkeshwar, and he had agreed to help as Danish had earlier assisted him in eliminating a personal enemy in Phulwari Sharif.
According to police, the group lured Tarkeshwar to the Bihar border and, once he crossed over with a friend on a bike, opened fire at them about 200 metres inside Bihar territory.
Both Danish and Nehal are hardened criminals with multiple cases of liquor smuggling, ATM theft, murder, and other offences registered against them in different Patna police stations. Kaimur police have shared details with their Patna counterparts and are continuing efforts to nab the remaining accused, the SP said....
