SASARAM, Oct. 8 -- Litti Babu! This is not the name of a peculiar Bhojpuri villager but the unique election mascot of Rohtas district to attract voters to take part enthusiastically in the upcoming elections in November. DM Udita Singh released the mascot on Monday. It is a litti (round bread filled with roasted gram flour and cooked over cow dung fire), a unique part of Bihar's tradition, taste and cultural heritage, rooted in the state's identity. It is a symbol that seamlessly connects with every Bihari across the world. "This symbol will serve as an attractive medium to motivate people to vote," DM Udita Singh said. "Dressed in traditional Bihari dhoti and kurta and the tricolor turban around head, Litti Babu bearing voting symbol, blue ink, in left hand and a message urging voters to cast their franchise, in the right hand, encourages voters," she said. The SVEEP Cell of the district had sought entries of mascots through an online District Level Mascot Competition. "Purushottam Kumar's mascot Litti Babu got first prize and was selected as the district's election mascot after some refinement," district public relation officer (DPRO) Ashish Ranjan said....
