PATNA, Nov. 5 -- The Patna district administration said on Tuesday an FIR has been registered against Union minister of panchayati raj and senior Janata Dal (United) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh over his controversial comments during campaigning a day ago. Rural SP Patna Aparajit Lohan said the case was filed under BNS sections 174 (punishment for undue influence or personation at an election), 223(A) (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and Section 123 (2) of the Representation of the People Act for alleged violations during the election process. Lalan Singh was campaigning for arrested JD(U) candidate from Mokama, Anant Singh, officials said. Anant Singh is currently in Beur Jail, facing charges related to the murder of 75-year-old Dularchand Yadav and Lalan is making up for Anant's absence and campaigning in Mokama which also falls under his Lok Sabha constituency. The FIR, according to officials, was filed after the review of a viral video footage that purportedly shows Singh making those comments. "The video footage was examined by the District Administration, Patna. Following the investigation, an FIR has been registered against Lalan Singh alias Rajiv Ranjan Singh under the sections of the BNSS and the Representation of the People Act," the Patna district administration said in a post on X. As per the content of the video, Singh could be heard in Magahi asking the NDA supporters to intimidate the opponents on polling day. "There are some people out here whom you must not allow to venture out on polling day. Lock them up inside their homes. If they cajole you, accompany them to polling booths and ensure that they go home after casting their vote," Singh is heard saying in the video. The HT couldn't independently verify the authenticity of the video. Since Singh is making up for Anant Singh, already a controversial figure and just sent to jail after a sensational murder during the poll campaign in his constituency, the surfacing of the video has stirred a storm, with Opposition leaders petitioning the EC for action against Singh. The RJD shared the video on social media and accused Lalan Singh of undermining the Election Commission. RJD spokesperson Priyanka Bharti posted on X. "Union minister Lalan Singh is driving a bulldozer over the Election Commission's chest. saying the poor should not be allowed to vote. Where is the 'dead' Commission? Will you wake up and verify the authenticity of this video showing such strongman behaviour?" she wrote. The Congress attacked the BJP-JD(U) alliance, stating, "Those going to vote against BJP-JD(U), don't let them step out of their homes on election day. Will the 'impartial' Election Commission take any action on this? Or continue to pat BJP-JDU leaders on the back, as always?" Meanwhile, ECI asked Bihar police to explain how Anant travelled with a cavalcade of 50 vehicles. Patna police have not been able to recover pellets from the spot where Dularchand was hit in the leg. Police are yet to identify the owners of the vehicles, which were damaged in the "clashes". The owner of the Thar vehicle which allegedly crushed Dularchand is also yet to be identified and arrested....
