BHABUA, May 30 -- An undertrial prisoner from Uttar Pradesh, lodged in Kaimur divisional jail in Bihar, died under mysterious circumstances late on Wednesday evening, police said on Thursday. The deceased, identified as Nakshe Ali (30) of Barhedha village under Mainader police station of Moradabad district in UP, was in jail in an NDPS Act case since December 3, 2024, jail officials said. Jail superintendent Sandeep Kumar said that Ali was in high depression after his bail plea was rejected by Patna High Court. He died by suicide by hanging himself with a towel on the prison staircase. The jail staff tried to save the prisoner and took him to the Sadar hospital, Bhabua where the doctor declared him dead. Kaimur district advocates' association general secretary and prisoner's right activist Mantu Pandey, who was present in the hospital during inquest and video graphed the injuries, said rope marks were apparently visible on the neck and both wrists of the deceased....
