Underpass of Darbhanga e'way caves in, 2 injured
PATNA, April 29 -- At least two labourers were injured when a portion of a vehicle underpass being constructed for Amas-Darbhanga expressway near Ratan Bigha village under Modanganj block of Jehanabad, caved in on Sunday evening.
The National Highway Authority (NHAI) is building a 189-kilometre six-lane access-controlled expressway in Bihar as a part of the Bharatmala Pariyojana. The road originates from Amas and terminates at Darbhanga, passing through seven districts including Aurangabad, Gaya, Nalanda, Jehanabad, Patna and Vaishali.
Jehanabad superintendent of police (SP) Arvind Pratap Singh said two labourers had sustained injuries and were rushed to the hospital. "There is no report of casualty. The district magistrate (Alankrita Pandey) has ordered an inquiry into the mishap," added the SP.
Regional officer, NHAI, NL Yeotkar said a portion of a 30-metre long vehicular underpass collapsed under heavy weight during the concreting process. "Sometimes technical faults happen during construction. It is a small portion. Concrete will be laid again after the damaged portion is rectified for fault," said Yeotkar.
Jehanabad DM Pandey said the labourers, who sustained minor injuries, were now out of danger. "An inquiry has also been ordered to find the lapses that led to the disaster," she added....
