India, Oct. 7 -- Heavy showers lashed parts of Uttarakhand, including some areas in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar, Dehradun, Tehri, Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar districts on Monday. The higher reaches of the hilly districts, including the Kedarnath shrine experienced a light to moderate spell of snow until 4pm on Monday. Anand Shukla, priest at the Kedarnath shrine, said, "The Kedarnath shrine is experiencing light to moderate spell of snow since noon resulting in cold conditions and the devotees are being advised to come for darshan wearing woollens." Harsil area in Uttarkashi district received 11.5mm of rain and Koti in Tehri district received 5mm of rain on Monday. The areas in and around Mussoorie also experienced heavy rain which continued intermittently throughout the day, residents said. Vinay Jhinkwan, executive engineer PWD Ukhimat in Rudraprayag district said, "The Badrinath shrine and the area around it including the surrounding peaks have received light to heavy spells of snow while the lower end of the Kedarnath trek route including Sonprayag and Gaurikund experienced a heavy spell of rain and the department is continuously monitoring the route for any damages so that it can be repaired without any delay." Rajee Devi, aged 21, a pilgrim from Noida, said, "This was my first visit to Kedarnath and to experience snow in my first visit was an out-of-the-world experience for me." The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Dehradun, has meanwhile issued a yellow alert for Uttarakhand over the next two days, warning of widespread adverse weather. A yellow alert has also been issued for Wednesday with a forecast of heavy rains in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Pithoragarh, Bageshwar and Rudraprayag districts of Uttarakhand.
