U'khand govt to create robust sporting ecosystem in state
Dehradun, Dec. 26 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Thursday highlighted the state government's long-term vision to develop a strong sporting ecosystem in Uttarakhand, for which, he said, efforts are underway to build world-class sports infrastructure and young talent across state are also being promoted.
He reiterated that the state is now being recognised not only as the "Devbhoomi" (land of gods), but also as a "Khel Bhoomi" (land of sports).
Addressing the closing ceremony of the Sansad Khel Mahotsav-2025 at the Old Multipurpose Hall near Tibetan Market in Dehradun, Dhami said Uttarakhand is now counted among the leading states in the country in terms of sports infrastructure. He also felicitated winning teams and athletes from various sporting events organised during the festival.
"A comprehensive Sports Legacy Plan is being implemented in the state. Under this plan, 23 sports academies will be established in eight major cities, where 920 world-class athletes and nearly 1,000 other players will receive high-level training every year," he said.
Paying tribute to former prime minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary, the chief minister said the occasion symbolises nation-building, good governance and democratic values. "Atal Ji taught us that politics is not a means of power but a commitment to national service. From the formation of Uttarakhand to giving a new direction to the country, he always envisioned the promotion of youth, athletes and talent," Dhami said, adding that the rise of a disciplined and confident young India through sports is the true tribute to Vajpayee's ideals.
The chief minister said PM Narendra Modi addressed the closing ceremony virtually and encouraged the players. "Inspired by the Prime Minister, the Sansad Khel Mahotsav has become a powerful platform to identify sporting talent from every village. Youth from Uttarakhand are now making their mark at district, state and national levels," he said. Dhami described the event as a strong example of taking the message of "Fit India, Sports India, Strong India" to the grassroots. HTC...
