Dehradun, Dec. 3 -- A 21-year-old man from Haridwar promised his friends Rs.30 lakh and an SUV car to kill his father, a retired Indian Air Force personnel, to usurp his property. The trio executed the plan on Saturday evening but were arrested on Monday, police said on Tuesday. On Sunday, the key accused brought his father to a canal road in the Bahadrabad area on the pretext of attending a friend's wedding. There, one of his two accomplices fired two rounds at the man's head, killing him on the spot. The accused son then dialled the police, fabricating a story that his father had been shot by an unidentified person who had asked them for a lift. As he continued to change his statements during police questioning, suspicion grew around him, eventually leading to his and his two friends' arrest. Senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal said, "The main accused, Yashpal Singh (21), didn't have a good relationship with his father due to his bad habits and company. He had been pressuring his father to transfer the property into his name, but the deceased refused and even wanted to disown him. Enraged, Yashpal conspired with his associates, Lalit Mohan alias Rajan and Shekhar, residents of Sitapur, Jwalapur, Haridwar, to kill his father. As part of the conspiracy, Yashpal agreed to pay his friends Rs.30 lakh and give them a SUV vehicle after the murder." Explaining the plan, Dobhal said, "The accused had decided that Yashpal would bring his father, Bhagwan Singh, to the Jwalapur-Bahadrabad canal road at night on the pretext of attending a wedding in Roshanabad. Rajan and Shekhar were to meet them ahead of the Jattawala bridge near the barrage. Yashpal would introduce Rajan as his friend and make him sit in the car. During this moment, they would shoot and kill Bhagwan Singh. The three accused carried out the crime as planned." The district police chief added, "As per the plan, all three accused conducted a recce on the afternoon of November 29 on the Jwalapur-Bahadrabad canal road. Later that night, around 8 pm, Yashpal took his father along, pretending they were going to a friend's wedding in Roshanabad. When they reached the barrage ahead of the Jattawala bridge, Rajan and Shekhar were already waiting there. Yashpal asked his father to drive and then shifted to the driver's seat himself. At that point, Rajan approached the car. Yashpal introduced him as a friend and made him sit inside. Rajan then took out the country-made pistol he was carrying and fired two rounds at Bhagwan Singh's temple, killing him on the spot. He fled immediately afterwards. A short while later, Yashpal called the police control room, falsely claiming that an unidentified person who had asked for a lift had shot his father....
