ARA, June 5 -- A dispute over bringing cigarettes in Ratnarh village under Garahni police station in Bhojpur district led to the killing of two youths on Tuesday evening, police said. The victims have been identified as 38-year-old Chandan Yadav alias Chandan Kumar Singh and 19-year-old Md Sonu, both residents of the village. According to police, Chandan and his friend had asked Md Sonu to bring cigarettes from a nearby shop while he was watching the IPL final match on his mobile phone. Md Sonu refused, leading to a heated argument. "A verbal altercation broke out between them, and Chandan along with his friends allegedly shot Md Sonu dead. In retaliation, Md Sonu's supporters shot and killed Chandan," said police. Chandan, who worked at a private firm in Bengaluru, had returned to the village to celebrate his son's birthday. Following the incident, Bhojpur Superintendent of Police (SP) Raj, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Parichay Kumar, and Garahni police station SHO Ranbir Kumar reached the village to bring the situation under control. Md Sonu died on the way to the Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Garahni, while Chandan died on the way to Ara Sadar Hospital. "Police have recovered a country-made pistol and five empty cartridges in connection with the incident," said SHO Ranbir Kumar. He added that one suspect has been arrested and that both sides have lodged FIRs against each other.
