BETTIAH, July 30 -- Two Kanwariyas on their way to their native villages in Nepal were brutally attacked by co-passengers with sharp-edged weapons at Sagauli station in Bihar's East Champaran district, officials said on Tuesday.
As per the FIR lodged at the Sagauli railway police station based on the statement of Suraj Keshori, a resident of Birganj in Nepal's Parsa district, the incident took place onboard the Mithila Express (13029) on Monday. The Kanwariyas were returning after offering holy water to the deity at Deoghar in Jharkhand.
Nidhi Kumari, deputy superintendent of police (DSP), Railway, Bettiah zone, said an argument broke out in coach number B-5 of the train, following which the two Kanwariyas were attacked with a sharp weapon as the train reached Sagauli station.
On hearing the commotion, Government Railway Police (GRP) personnel rushed to the spot, but the attackers managed to flee. "While chasing them, security personnel recovered a bag belonging to one of the attackers. It contained an Aadhaar card and other belongings," said Kumari. One person has been named in the FIR, while others remain unidentified. The weapon used in the attack has been recovered, she added....
