Two cops injured, vehicle charred in Gaya Ji district
GAYA JI, July 12 -- Two policemen were injured and their vehicle was torched by angry villagers following the death of a bike rider during a police chase near Vidhichak village under Kothi police station limits in Bihar's Gaya district on Friday, police said.
According to officials, the Kothi police team was chasing the biker based on information that he was involved in liquor smuggling. During the chase, the speeding bike crashed into a tree, leading to the death of the rider on the spot.
The deceased was identified as Devbali alias Babu Chaudhary (40), a resident of Meghasthan village. However, villagers alleged that the police deliberately hit the bike with their vehicle, causing the fatal crash. They surrounded the police team, leading to heated arguments and a violent altercation.
In the clash, two policemen sustained injuries while the others managed to escape and inform senior officers.

The deceased's younger brother, Vinay Chaudhary, was inconsolable and claimed this was the third murder in their family. "First my aunt was killed, then my mother, and now the police have crushed my brother to death on mere suspicion of liquor smuggling-no liquor was even recovered," he alleged.
Imamganj Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Amit Kumar reached the spot with heavy reinforcement, rescued the injured policemen, and sent them for medical treatment.
"The deceased was riding the bike with another person, who was carrying liquor and fled the spot after the crash," the SDPO said.
