PATNA, Oct. 12 -- Unidentified criminals gunned down a 25-year-old tobacco shopkeeper after he asked them to pay for cigarettes at Bero Chowk locality under Sadar police station area of Supaul district late on Friday, police said. According to police, two youths came to Sajan alias Dhiraj Mukhia's shop and took cigarettes without paying. When the shopkeeper demanded payment, a scuffle broke out. "Following a brief altercation, one of the miscreants fired four rounds at Sajan. He sustained three bullet injuries and was rushed to the primary health centre, where doctors declared him brought dead," said Supaul Superintendent of Police (SP) Sharath RS. Following the incident, locals and family members blocked the Supaul-Nauhatta main road on Saturday, disrupting vehicular movement for over four hours. The protesters demanded immediate arrest of the accused and ex gratia for the victim's family. The blockade was lifted after police assured swift action. The SP said one person, identified as Aditya Kumar Yadav, son of PACS chairman Shambhu Yadav, has been arrested and sent to jail. "The criminal background of all those involved is being verified," he added. In a separate incident, a chicken vendor was stabbed to death at Bhatauliya Chowk under Goraul police station area of Vaishali district on Friday evening. Tension prevailed in the area following the murder. Angry locals blocked the Hajipur-Muzaffarpur NH-22 for nearly two hours by placing the body on the road and burning tyres, disrupting traffic. The deceased was identified as Mohammad Imtiaz, an employee at a chicken shop owned by Mohammad Islam. Police said Imtiaz, who sustained serious injuries, was rushed to a hospital but died on the way.
