ARA, Nov. 24 -- The Excise and Prohibition Department on Sunday arrested two smugglers and seized 9,590 litres of cough syrup containing codeine, valued at Rs.1.5 crore, from two trucks in Bhojpur district, police said. Officials said the arrests and the seizure followed specific intelligence inputs that a truck loaded with banned cough syrup was being transported from Dehradun to Patna. On the directions of Bhojpur District Magistrate Tanai Sultania, the Prohibition Department has been conducting continuous raids and vehicle-checking drives against illegal liquor in the district. Both the trucks bore Uttar Pradesh registration numbers. The drivers were identified as Yogesh Kumar and Mohd. Irshad, both residents of UP, officials added.
