ARA, Aug. 24 -- In a major crackdown on the sand mafia, Bhojpur police and the mining department sealed 12 weighing bridges (dharmkantas) and imposed a fine of over Rs.37.80 lakh, officials said. The action was taken on the instructions of Bhojpur District Magistrate (DM) Tanai Sultania during a joint raid conducted by police and mining officials. The team found illegally stored sand at 12 weighing bridges. FIRs have been registered against all 12 dharmkantas for illegal sand storage-three cases under Sandesh police station and nine under Chandi police station. A total fine of Rs.37,80,430 has been imposed. The district administration has made it clear that the campaign against illegal sand storage and trade will continue.
