SAHARSA, June 13 -- A trainee Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Bihar Police was found dead under mysterious circumstances in Bihar's Saharsa district late Wednesday evening. The deceased, 35-year-old Ashok Kumar Bhagat, was posted in Hajipur (Vaishali) and undergoing training in Supaul. The incident occurred while he was at his Shivpuri residence in Saharsa. Conflicting claims have surfaced following his death. While his wife alleged he was murdered and accused her brother-in-law of the crime, his brother claimed it was a case of suicide. Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Alok Kumar said, "Prima facie, it appears to be a case of suicide by consuming poison. The post-mortem report will further clarify the exact cause of death." According to police, the trainee ASI left home on Wednesday afternoon carrying a bag. Later in the evening, he was found lying unconscious under a tree near Sukhasan village. His family members rushed him to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The wife accused her brother-in-law of killing her husband over a property dispute. "He was eliminated for obvious reasons - to grab his land," she alleged, while demanding a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident. In contrast, Umesh Kumar Bhagat, the deceased's brother, claimed Ashok died by suicide after a heated argument with his wife. "He left home following a quarrel, and hours later, we found him lying unconscious," he said, insisting that his brother had been under mental stress lately....
