PATNA, July 1 -- Indian Railways (IR) is introducing new rules for Tatkal bookings to make the system more secure, transparent, curb misuse and fair from today. The new rule mandates Aadhaar verification for Tatkal ticket bookings. This means passengers whose IRCTC accounts are not linked to Aadhaar will not be able to book Tatkal tickets online or offline. It stated that the aim of this requirement is to ensure that the benefits of the Tatkal scheme reach genuine users. The Ministry of Railways (MoR) issued a directive to all railway zones including ECR recently. The directive specified that authorised ticketing agents of the IR will not be permitted to book opening day Tatkal tickets during the first 30 minutes of the Tatkal booking window. The directive also said, "Tatkal tickets shall be available for booking through computerized PRS counters of IR/authorized agents only after authentication of a system-generated OTP, which shall be sent through the system on the mobile number furnished by the user at the time of booking.....
