Three of family electrocuted in Samastipur
SAMASTIPUR, Aug. 19 -- Tragedy struck a family in Samastipur district on Sunday evening when three of its members died from electrocution, while a 6-month-old girl was left critically injured, police said.
Police further said that the incident occurred in Ward 12 of Bibhutipur Purab (east ) panchayat which falls under the jurisdiction of Bibhutipur police station.
The deceased have been identified as Shanti Devi (60), wife of Ramashish Ram, their son Arun Ram (40), and grandson Ajit Kumar Ram (16).
Arun's three-month-old daughter, who sustained severe injuries, is undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital after being referred from the primary health centre.
According to eyewitnesses, the mishap occurred after a service wire connected to the family's house reportedly snapped when Arun was trying to remove the electric wire from the contact of tree branch with the help of bamboo. He came in contact with the live wire and was electrocuted.
Seeing him collapsing, his mother Shanti Devi and nephew Ajit Kumar rushed to rescue him but also got trapped in the electric current.
Arun's wife, Rinku Devi, who was carrying her six-month-old baby, rushed to the spot and too came in contact with the current. While she escaped with minor injuries, the infant sustained serious burns and is under intensive care.
Local residents rushed all the victims to the nearby government hospital, where doctors declared Arun, Shanti Devi, and Ajit Kumar dead....
