Three of a family killed after car plunges into canal in rural Patna
PATNA, July 13 -- Three members of a family, including a 10-year-old child, from Vaishali drowned after their car plunged into roadside Sone canal in Ranitalab Police station area of rural Patna on Saturday morning. Two others who were with them survived the accident.
"A tragic road accident near Saraiya village claimed the lives of three members of a family from Mahua village in Vaishali. The incident occurred at around 4.30 am when their car veered off the road and plunged into a canal. They were returning from Chhatisgarh," said city SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh.
Giving more details about the incident, Ranitalab police officials said that at around 5am, they got information about the incident and a police team was dispatched to the spot where cops with the help of locals managed to retrieve the car.
As the car was dragged out, police found that two of them -- Nandan Singh and his daughter Siddhi Singh -- who were on front seat were still breathing. All the five were immediately rushed to Bikram primary health centre. Three of them identified as Nirmala Devi (52), her daughter in-law Neetu Singh (35) and grandson Astitva Singh (10) were declared brought dead. The three were seated at the back and were trapped underwater. Nandan was driving towards the Vaishali when the incident took place. The family were returning to their native place for attend a function. Police said Nandan, who was driving, swerved sharply as he dozed, causing the vehicle to land straight into the canal. Nandan and his daughter were later referred to the AIIMS and were under treatment....
