Three Maoists killed in fight with security forces in Gumla
RANCHI, July 27 -- Security forces killed three suspected Maoists during an encounter in the Lawadag forest area under Ghaghra police station limits in Gumla district on Saturday, officials said.
According to officials, a joint team of Gumla district police and the Jharkhand Jaguar were conducting an operation in the forest area based on intelligence inputs regarding the presence of members of the Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP), a splinter group of the outlawed Communist Party of India (Maoist), in the area.
"In an encounter with the extremist outfit JJMP, three extremists were killed. Their identification is being done. Weapons, including one AK-47, were recovered. Police received specific information regarding the movement of this group; accordingly, a joint operation involving the district police and the Jharkhand Jaguar was launched," said Michael Raj S, IG (operations), Jharkhand Police.
Gumla district police officials said several rounds of bullets were fired from both sides during the encounter. "One of the deceased was identified as Dilip Lohra, 32, a resident of Belagada in Ghaghra. The identification of the other two deceased is still underway," said Haris Bin Zaman, Gumla superintendent of police (SP).
Officials said the JJMP members had been hiding in a house near Lawadag Choraltwa village for the past two to three days. "As the police reached the spot, they opened fire and attempted to flee. In the exchange of fire that followed, the three JJMP members were killed, while two managed to escape," the SP added....
