Three arrested with opium worth Rs.2cr in Bihar's East Champaran
BETTIAH, May 13 -- Bihar's Ramgarhwa police in coordination with special task force (STF) on Sunday arrested a notorious interstate narcotic peddler and two other smugglers with four kilograms of opium, Rs.2.4 lakh cash and seven mobiles from their possession at a place in East Champaran district, police said on Monday.
Official sources estimated the seizure at Rs.2 crore.
According to police, the arrest was made from Power Grid Bhaisara area under Ramgarhwa police station on Sunday evening.
"During the investigation, it came to fore that the narcotic was being smuggled into Punjab after securing the consignment from Nepal," said police in an official statement.
Police said Anup Yadav, one of the three arrested smugglers, who hails from Chatra in Jharkhand, was a notorious interstate drug smuggler.
Harsidih police on Monday arrested an assistant teacher for allegedly attacking the school headmaster and injuring him critically in a murderous attempt on his life at Rajkiya Utkramit Urdu Madhya Vidyalaya at Paithan Patti village in East Champaran district on Sunday, police said.
Confirming this, Savendra Kumar Sinha, station house officer (SHO), Harsidih said the arrested teacher, identified as Ramashankar Paswan, in connivance with two men attacked the headmaster Pawan Kumar Paswan following some disputes. "The search for other accused is on," said SHO.
