SASARAM, July 20 -- Three youths were arrested for allegedly assaulting a woman Circle Officer (CO) posted in Rohtas district and her male friend, who were visiting hillocks and forests near Geeta Ghat Ashram, close to Sasaram. The male friend was later identified as Kaushal Kumar, the CO of Revelganj circle in Saran district, police said. A video of the incident, which went viral on Friday, showed both officers being chased by at least 8-10 villagers as they returned from the forested area. In the footage, Kaushal Kumar is seen apologising and saying, "Leave, brother. I will not do this again." The villagers were heard asking the officers to show their IDs and questioning their presence in the area, saying, "Is this the kind of work you people do in the hills?" Both officers were reportedly mistreated by the locals. The Hindustan Times could not independently verify the authenticity of the video. Some villagers were seen removing the nameplate from the CO's SUV, which had a Patna registration number, and one individual even attempted to vandalise the vehicle. After the officers boarded the car, which was parked by the roadside, the crowd surrounded it and blocked the road with motorcycles. Repeated efforts by the Hindustan Times correspondent to contact the officers on their official mobile numbers went unanswered. Rohtas Superintendent of Police (SP) Raushan Kumar on Saturday said that the woman officer had lodged a complaint of assault and robbery at Darigaon police station. She claimed that she was in Sasaram for official work when Kaushal Kumar contacted her, seeking help as he was in trouble near Geeta Ghat Ashram. Upon reaching the location, she was allegedly attacked by some miscreants, who scuffled with her, beat her, and snatched her mobile phone and cash before fleeing. The three accused - Subham alias Sandeep Bind, Pawan Kumar, and Jacky Gupta, all residents of Karserua village - have been arrested. Further investigation is underway, the SP said....
