Thieves target four coaches of Jodhpur Express
PATNA, Jan. 9 -- Unidentified thieves targeted at least four coaches of the Jodhpur-Kamakhya Weekly Express (15623) in the early hours of Thursday, stealing valuables worth several lakhs from around 10 to 12 passengers. The incident took place under cover of darkness between Fatuha and Mokama stations on the Patna-Howrah rail section in Bihar, under the Danapur rail division of East Central Railway (ECR). The thieves halted the train by pulling the alarm chain and fled with the booty. Around a dozen passengers travelling in different coaches of the train, said they realised their luggage/belongings were missing soon after the train left from Patna towards Katihar. When the train reached Katihar station, the passengers, while talking to each other, came to know that a similar incident had taken place with many people travelling in other coaches.
The affected coaches include B1, B6, A1 and A2. According to a GRP official, the thieves, suspected to have boarded at Patna, struck while passengers were asleep, stealing cash, cellphones and other valuables. The train stops at New Barauni station after Patna, but before that the miscreants had fled.
One Kamlesh Kumar, travelling in an AC-2 coach, first reported the incident through the railway helpline. The complaint was later forwarded to the Railway Protection Force (RPF). According to Kamlesh, his money bag containing cash, important documents and personal items were stolen.
Many passengers questioned the apparent security lapse, particularly how unauthorised people managed to enter reserved AC coaches....
