Tejashwi trashes exit polls: 'BJP-sponsored'
PATNA, Nov. 13 -- Leader of the Opposition and INDIA bloc's chief ministerial face Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Wednesday trashed the exit polls predicting a big win for ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) by alleging that such polls were all sponsored by the BJP to exert pressure on state administrative machinery ahead of the counting process on November 14.
"The exit polls started being aired in the media on Tuesday even before the final polling ended with people still being seen lined up in queues outside the booths. That reflects how the BJP-JD(U) combine is desperate to project they are winning. This is nothing but a psychological pressure on state officials before the counting process begins," Yadav said.
Most of the exit polls aired in the media on Tuesday after the conclusion of the second phase of polling has predicted that NDA may get a clear majority while forecasting the opposition Mahagathbandhan running short of the 122 majority figure in the 243 member state assembly.
Exuding confidence of the RJD-Congress led Mahagathbandhan getting clear majority, Yadav, 36, said the feedback received from workers and people after the two phase polls in Bihar indicate that 'people have voted for change decisively' with participation of 72 lakh more voters across the state this time compared to last elections as reflected in higher voter's turnout.
"This is a big number and if one calculates, 29,500 more voters cast their votes per assembly than previous polls, "the RJD leader said.
Yadav further said that the high voters' turnout and voting trends in the state were similar to 1995 assembly polls, implying the mandate in 1995 assembly polls when RJD led by then Chief Minister Lalu Prasad had got a clear majority after running a minority government from 1990 to 95.
"The feedback we have received so far indicates that the Mahagathbandhan will sweep the polls clearly. There is no 'ifs' and 'buts' this time. We are going to form a government and the oath will take place on November 18," Yadav said, while holding a presser with other leaders including Sanjay Yadav, MP, senior leader Alok Mehta, former MLA, Shakti Singh Yadav, and RJD national spokesperson Priyanka Bharti.
Mocking the exit polls, Yadav also said in 2024 the pollsters had predicted a big win for the BJP led NDA by giving them over 400 seats but ultimately, all the predictions came flat as the BJP won only 240 seats.
"All these exit polls are scripted by the BJP. What is the sample size of these surveys and what is their yardstick,"Yadav asked, trying to drive home his point that there is lack of credibility about the exit polls.
The INDIA bloc CM face said the RJD and it's allies this time were all prepared to keep an extra vigil at the counting centres to check any electoral malpractices even as he asserted that people of the state would give a befitting reply, if the ruling NDA indulges in any kind of electoral discrepancies.
"In the last 2020 polls, we lost by just 12,000 votes to the NDA . There were electoral malpractices. This time, we are vigilant. But we are apprehensive this time too that the counting process may be slowed down. I have already highlighted how officers and security personnel from BJP ruled states have been deployed in Bihar polls," said Yadav, implying that the chances of electoral discrepancies during counting could not be ruled out at the behest of the ruling dispensation.
Yadav, who had addressed close to 150 rallies during the campaign ahead of the two phase polls held on November 6th and November 11, also expressed reservation over the way the security personnel deployed in election duty in Bihar were busy doing flag marches in the districts only to create a sense of ' panic' among people ahead of the counting day on November 14.
The RJD, being the senior most constituent in the opposition coalition, has high stakes in this election as it's hoping to come back to power after two decades though it had short stints in power with the Janta Dal ( United) in 2015 and 2022 for two years.
"Flag marches are being conducted in districts by central security personnel just to create panic before the counting. On the other hand, no concrete action is visible after the Delhi bomb blasts," Yadav said.
The RJD leader said the exit polls giving NDA a majority would all fall flat as like past instances when a false narrative was created by a section of media about high presence of 'infiltrators' in Bihar during the Special Intensive Revision(SIR) and also the narrative created during the Operation Sindoor about INDIA capturing Pakistan's many cities.
"Yesterday, a section of media started flashing the false news of actor Dharmendra's death and some top BJP leaders including Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath had posted condolence messages. Some sections of the media do not even check facts before flashing any news," Yadav said, with a smile. The counting of votes will take place on Friday....
