PATNA, July 26 -- Former chief minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Rabri Devi on Friday alleged threat to life to her son and leader of the Opposition in the Bihar assembly Tejashwi Yadav. Talking to mediapersons outside the Legislative Council building, Rabri Devi claimed that there had been four deliberate attempts to assassinate Tejashwi, asserting that his life was under severe threat. She directly accused the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) coalition of orchestrating a conspiracy to eliminate him as Tejashwi's popularity is rising and RJD is gaining greater influence in the run up to the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections. "BJP and JD(U) are the ones conspiring... We know who is behind it," she claimed, using strong language to label the alleged conspirators as 'nali ke kide' (gutter worms), intensifying the already charged atmosphere in the state's political landscape. The allegations came amid ongoing protests by the RJD against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar's voter list, which the Opposition claims is a calculated move by the state government to disenfranchise millions of voters, particularly the estimated four crore people who have migrated out of the state for work. Rabri Devi passionately defended the protests, stating, "We will definitely protest as it is about the people of Bihar... What about the 4 crore people who have gone out of the state? The state government must respond." The RJD's agitation, which included cornering the treasury in the assembly as well as the legislative council for five consecutive days, saw its legislators, including Rabri Devi, donning black attire for three days as a symbolic gesture against what they perceive as an attack on democratic rights. The protests have heightened tensions, with the Opposition accusing the Nitish Kumar-led government of undermining Bihar's electoral process to weaken their voter base. The ruling coalition, comprising BJP and JD(U), responded with theatrical defiance, as their legislators appeared in the Assembly wearing helmets, alleging fears of physical attacks by RJD members. This followed verbal clashes in the council, where chief minister Nitish Kumar and Rabri Devi had previously exchanged sharp words, reflecting deep-seated animosity between the two sides. The ruling alliance dismissed Rabri Devi's allegations of assassination attempts as baseless and politically motivated, accusing the RJD of fabricating a narrative to garner public sympathy ahead of the elections. "Tejashwi Prasad Yadav already has a Y-category security. And if there is any real threat, the government shall review and enhance the security cover," said state BJP chief and MLC Dilip Kumar Jaiswal....
