PATNA, June 22 -- Leader of the opposition Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Saturday said that the state government's bid to increase the pensions of senior citizens, widows and people with disability by Rs.700 per month was done by taking a leaf out of his recent poll promises of enhancing the social security pension, if INDIA bloc comes to power. The beneficiaries would get now Rs.1,100 under social security pension scheme. "This government has no vision and chief minister Nitish Kumar is a tired person now. This is why they are just copying what we are promising to the people of the state. This is a copycat government and CM Kumar has no vision to take the state ahead in the development path. Well, I had predicted that the state government would increase the pension for widows, senior citizens and the physically disabled under pressure soon. See, it has happened," Yadav said, trying to take credit for the pension enhancement announced by CM today. He also said that the government's bid to provide jobs to teachers was done by his initiative as during his stint as deputy chief minister in the last Grand Alliance government , five lakh employment to teachers were given. "Take my words, this government is going to even copy my promise of giving Rs.2,500 to women from weaker sections under the Mai Behan Maan Yojana," Yadav said. The opposition leader said that RJD and INDIA bloc still are committed to its promise of enhancing the social security pension to Rs.1,500 , if it comes to power. "We will definitely give Rs.1,500 as social security pension to widow, senior citizens and people with disability. The amount could even be increased taking into account inflation and other factors," Yadav said, even as he wondered why the state government had not enhanced the social security pension from Rs.400 to Rs.1,100 by provisioning funds in the budget for 2025-26. "I want the enhanced amount under social security pension at the earliest so that beneficiaries could get benefitted," Yadav said....
