teacher rescued from Sasaram after gunfight with cops, two kidnappers hurt
PATNA, Aug. 24 -- Bihar Police rescued a government school teacher from Sasaram in Rohtas district within 24 hours of his abduction. The operation, carried out on Saturday evening, left two of the abductors injured in a police encounter, while some personnel also sustained minor injuries.
Police arrested seven kidnappers and recovered two pistols and 16 live cartridges from their possession.
Sahabad Range DIG Satya Prakash said the armed abductors had kidnapped Dilip Kumar Singh, a physical education teacher of Kapasia Middle School, on Friday evening while he was on his way home to Rupibandh. They demanded Rs.5 lakh ransom from his wife over a phone call and threatened her with dire consequences. An FIR was lodged at Kochas police station on the basis of a complaint by the teacher's elder brother, Girish Narayan Singh.
DIG Prakash said the Director General of Police (DGP) and ADG (Operations) personally monitored the operation, which was led overnight by Rohtas Superintendent of Police (SP) Raushan Kumar with the assistance of STF. "Bihar has no place for kidnappers and anti-social elements," he asserted.
Acting on intelligence inputs, police tracked down the abductors. When confronted, the criminals opened fire, prompting retaliatory action in which two of them-Prabhat Kumar alias Sonu Gupta and Suresh Ram, both residents of Kaimur district-sustained bullet injuries. They were later admitted to hospital and are out of danger.
