BETTIAH, May 9 -- In a bizarre turn of events, a gang of thieves stole an SUV used by the Liquor Task Force (LTF) during raids against liquor smugglers from a police check-post in East Champaran district, officials said on Thursday. Areraj Station House Officer (SHO) Vibha Kumari said the incident occurred on Tuesday evening but came to light only on Wednesday when police personnel failed to locate the vehicle, which bore the registration number BR05PA9630. "The vehicle was last parked near the check-post after a routine area check on Tuesday evening. It was found missing the next morning," the SHO said. After the theft was reported, Areraj police launched a probe. "CCTV footage is being examined, and we are confident of cracking the case soon," said a police officer involved in the investigation.
