PATNA, June 13 -- A speeding SUV rammed into Patna police personnel at a check point on Atal Path, killing a 25-yr-old woman constable and critically injuring three others. The incident occurred around 12:30 am in SK Puri police station area of the state capital. The speeding vehicle also suffered damage and had a BJP flag on it, though police have not yet confirmed any political link to the vehicle or its occupants. Patna police registered an FIR against four persons, including vehicle owner Nikhil Raj and his driver. Both were arrested and forwarded to judicial custody. Raids are on to nab two more persons identified as Ajay and Kuldeep travelling in the SUV during the incident, said SSP Awakas Kumar The SUV (a black Scorpio), reportedly travelling at 90 kmph from JP Path (Digha police station area), hit sub-inspector Deepak Kumar, assistant sub-inspector Awadhesh, and woman constable Komal when they tried to stop the vehicle. Due to hit, all the three cops flung into the air. They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where Komal, a native of Nalanda district, was declared brought dead. The SI and ASI were in critical condition. A video of the incident also surfaced later. It shows the police conducting routine checks, with one Scorpio being stopped for questioning. Moments later, a second Scorpio appears at high speed and bumps into the officers. The driver of the Scorpio managed to flee from the spot while two people, who travelling in the SUV, were detained by the police. Upon receiving information, senior officials, including SSP Avkash Kumar, reached the scene. Police confirmed that the SUV involved in the crash has been seized. The driver, however, fled the scene. Senior SP, while talking with HT confirmed the death of Komal Kumari, said, "The driver of the Scorpio intentionally hit the on-duty policemen, so FIR would lodge against under sections of murder and other charges of BNS Act. Police have launched a probe into the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision, including the identity of the absconding driver and the reason for the vehicle's excessive speed. The role of the vehicle's occupants is also under scrutiny." SSP said vehicle checks were underway from 10:30 pm to 12:30 am in the capital and across the district on the directive of DGP Vinay Kumar. The accident happened during one such routine operation.
