PATNA, Oct. 18 -- Bihar cadre IAS officer Sanjiv Hans was released from Beur central jail on Friday after Patna High Court granted his regular bail petition. He was on October 18, last year arrested by the enforcement directorate in a money laundering case. Hans, an IAS officer of Bihar, was arrested from his official residence in Patna, while his associate Gulab Yadav, former MLA, was detained in Delhi under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). "The petitioner is directed to remain physically present before the trial court below on each and every date, failing which on two consecutive dates without reasonable cause, the bail bonds of the petitioner are liable to be cancelled. The petitioner shall not leave the country during the bail period and surrender his passport after release before the Trial Court. In case, the petitioner changes his address, he will inform the ED as well as to the concerned Court," read the order given by judge Chandra Prakash Singh. Hans's counsel Farrukh Khan said the HC through its detailed order dated October 16, had been pleased to grant bail. The court after an exhaustive consideration of the material placed by both sides, found that the case of ED suffered from serious jurisdictional and evidentiary infirmities, and that the continued detention of Hans was not warranted at this stage....
