Suspended BRS officers to resume their duties today
PATNA, May 4 -- Circle officers (COs) and revenue officers (ROs), whose suspension was revoked by the revenue and land reforms department on Saturday, have been asked to report to their district magistrates concerned on Monday before joining their old place of postings.
The department had suspended as many as 47 officers of Bihar Revenue Service (BRS), mostly COs, during the 2nd week of April for spearheading an agitation under the banner of Bihar Revenue Service Association (United)--BiRSA(U)--since March 9 in support of their demands for strict compliance of their old service rules and the Patna high court's orders.
Posting of qualified BRS officers as deputy collector land revenue (DCLR) and district land acquisition officer (DLO) in place of those of the Bihar Administrative Service (BAS) was among their main demands.
President of BiRSA (U) Aditya Shivamshankar hailed the government's decision to reinstate the services and hoped their demands would be fulfilled in accordance with the assurance given by the secretary of the department in due course of time.
As per the earlier order, all suspended BRS officers were asked to report to Purnea district administration during the suspension period.
According to a senior officer of the department, the officers called off their two-month old strike after the department agreed to consider their logical demands sympathetically. The suspended BRS offices would join their respective offices on Monday....
