PATNA, May 21 -- An international-level research centre for sugarcane production will be set up at Pusa in Samastipur. The sugarcane industries department has launched the process to acquire necessary land and resources for the institute, said the departmental minister Krishna Nandan Paswan here on Tuesday. Opening of the high-level research centre for sugarcane production is part of a comprehensive strategy of the state government to boost production of sugar and jaggery and their by-products to boost farmers' income. The minister also launched an online portal for the assistance of sugarcane growers. "The digital intervention and research centre would catapult the fortune of sugarcane growers in northern Bihar, which used to house the maximum number of sugar mills and ethanol production units. The research centre would work on innovative technology for betterment of sugarcane production by way of apprising the farmers about pest and weed management," said the minister. Sugarcane department secretary B Kartikey Dhanji said that entrepreneurs interested in jaggery production can apply for license through the portal.
