PATNA, March 24 -- The contractual teachers, who are on indefinite strike 17 since February, on Monday knocked the National Human Rights Commission's door to seek payment of their two months' (February and March) salaries.

The government refused to release two months' salaries of more than 4.5 lakh contractual teachers after they started the indefinite strike for their eight-point demands including 'equal pay for equal work' among others.

State convener of TET Shikshak Sangharsh Samanvaya Samiti (TETSSSS), Amit Vikram, who filed the complaint with the NHRC on behalf of the teachers, called the government approach "arbitrary". "Stopping payment at the time when the world is fighting with coronavirus pandemic is inhuman," he said.
