Stones thrown at Vande Bharat Train in Bihar, window glass damaged
KATIHAR, April 30 -- The window glass of the Patna-New Jalpaiguri Vande Bharat Express (Train No. 22234) was damaged after miscreants hurled stones at it near Bihpur station on the Katihar-Barauni section under the Sonepur division on Monday evening, officials said.
The Bihar police, along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF), has launched an investigation to identify those responsible.
Railway officials have assured that strict legal action will be taken against the culprits.
The incident came to light after the train reached Katihar Junction.
"The window glass of the E-1 coach was found damaged. We spoke to passengers travelling in the coach and fortunately, everyone is safe," said RPF inspector Rakesh Kumar.
Passengers on board also confirmed the incident to RPF officials.
Chief public relations officer of east central railway (ECR), Saraswati Chandra, said, "We have received the report, and railway security forces have been directed to nab the culprits."
Police teams from three nearby stations have started scrutinising CCTV footage from the surrounding areas as part of the probe.
This is not the first time a Vande Bharat Express train has been targeted in Bihar.
On April 14, the Bhagalpur-Howrah Vande Bharat Express was attacked near Hatpurani Halt, resulting in damage to several windows.
Earlier, during a trial run on September 11 last year in Gaya, stones were pelted at the train, shattering a window. On January 20, 2023, similar vandalism was reported when stones were thrown at the New Jalpaiguri-Howrah Vande Bharat Express between Dalkhola and Telta stations in Katihar district.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported in any of these incidents....
