STET aspirants face police baton again
PATNA, Aug. 19 -- Patna police on Monday again resorted to lathi charge after one week on thousands of aspirants of state teacher eligibility test (STET) and librarians who had gathered at Dak Bungalow roundabout here. Half a dozen aspirants were reported injured and many fainted during the lathi charge, said people in the know.
STET aspirants started their march form Patna College towards CM's residence demanding the announcement of STET and BTET. When their march reached Dak Bungalow, the police tried to stop and as they ignored they faced police batons. Earlier, heavy police force was deputed at Dak Bungalow to stop protestors and barricades were put to prevent their march, said a police officer.
An aspirant said, "We want to meet our CM. This is our third protest for demanding to conduct STET before release of TRE-4 vacancies but no attention was given," she added.
Aspirants said they had been waiting for the STET exam for a long time. "The government is playing with our future by not conducting STET. We also warn the government that if exam dates are not announced soon, the protest will intensify."
DSP law and order, KM Prasad said nine protesters were detained in this connection and an FIR would be lodged on the basis of the statement of the magistrate. "Some aspirants went to meet officers concerned over this issue. However, the police did not resort to lathi charge on anyone."
On August 18, police had also resorted to lathi charge at JP roundabout on the same issue....
