State govt working to develop border villages: U'khand CM
Dehradun, Jan. 5 -- Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Sunday said the state government is making special efforts to develop and empower border villages, with a strong focus on road connectivity to boost tourism, trade and strategic infrastructure in remote areas.
Addressing the 'Pride Moments' award ceremony organised by the Arpit Foundation at the chief minister's camp office, Dhami said an extensive road network is being developed in border regions, which has not only eased movement for local residents and security forces but also strengthened economic and strategic activities.
On the occasion, the chief minister honoured officers and personnel of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), lauding their courage, dedication and commitment to national service. He said the SSB has played a vital role in safeguarding the country for over six decades, contributing significantly to internal security, border management, counter-terrorism, anti-Naxal operations and disaster response.
"The personnel of the SSB remain vigilant round the clock to protect the nation's borders. Along with this, they have also made remarkable contributions in sports, social service and disaster relief operations," he said.
Highlighting the Centre's focus on strengthening India's defence capabilities, the chief minister said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country is moving rapidly towards self-reliance in the defence sector and has emerged as a leading exporter of defence equipment. He added that India's indigenous weapons systems have gained global recognition, including during Operation Sindoor.
Dhami said the state government continues to take key decisions for the welfare of soldiers, paramilitary personnel and their families. "The ex-gratia amount provided to the families of martyrs has been increased from Rs.10 lakh to Rs.50 lakh. The honorarium given to soldiers decorated with gallantry medals has also been enhanced," he said.
Referring to the Vibrant Villages Programme, the chief minister said special measures are being undertaken to ensure holistic development of border villages under the prime minister's guidance. He added that the prime minister regularly visits border areas, interacts with local residents and security forces, and takes decisive steps to address their concerns while accelerating development in strategically important regions....
