BETTIAH, Nov. 30 -- A 31-year-old jawan of the 51st battalion of Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB), who was posted at a border out-post (BOP) on the Indo-Nepal border, allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle at a place in Bihar's Sitamarhi district on Saturday, police said. Sanjeev Kumar, Commandant of the 51st battalion said the jawan (name withheld) shot himself, what appears to be with his INSAS (Indian Small Arms System) rifle on the premises of Ramnagar Border Outpost (BOP) in Sonbarsa block of Sitamarhi district on Saturday morning. "The exact cause behind the incident could not be known immediately. We are looking into the matter," said the commandant. Soon after the DIG Saroj Kumar Thakur, Commandant Sanjeev Kumar Singh, BOP Commander Nirottam Singh, Company Commander Sanjay Kumar and Kanhauli's station house officer (SHO) Birbal Kumar reached the spot and took stock of the situation. An empty cartridge and rifle were seized from the spot. People familiar with the matter said the jawan along with others who returned from duty Lakarwa checkpost, was planning for a volleyball match after morning refreshment....
