Sporadic clashes in peaceful, brisk polling
PATNA, Nov. 7 -- The first phase of polling for the Bihar Assembly elections witnessed sporadic clashes marked by frayed tempers and verbal duels on Thursday in an otherwise peaceful polling for 121 seats. While CPM MLA Satyendra Yadav was attacked in Chhapra's Manjhi constituency, deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha's cavalcade came under attack in Lakhisarai allegedly by RJD workers.
According to reports, Satyendra Yadav - who represents the Manjhi seat - was out inspecting polling booths when a group of unidentified miscreants manhandled him and vandalised his vehicle. The attack occurred near Daudpur, where stones were reportedly thrown at his car. "Locals began protesting outside the polling station, and during the commotion, the vehicle's window was damaged by anti-social elements," the police statement read.
Authorities confirmed that the MLA and his associates escaped unhurt and polling continued peacefully at booths 42 and 43 after initial disturbance.
In Lakhisarai, alleged RJD supporters surrounded the car of Vijay Kumar Sinha, hurling slippers and shouting slogans against him. "These are the goons of RJD. The goons are not letting me visit the village. Vijay Sinha is going to win. They turned away my polling agent and did not let him vote. Look at their hooliganism. This is 404 and 405 booth numbers of Khoriari village," he said.
Vijay added, "I am here at the village. The crowd is coming closer. Send a Special Force. The SP is so weak and a coward. They are not letting the Dy CM go in. They have hurled stones and cow dung." Later RJD MLC Ajay Singh and Vijay Sinha clashed in the middle of the road after an argument. Sinha accused Ajay Singh of being drunk and behaving like a goon. Singh also labelled Sinha a goon. In response, Vijay Sinha said, "I will take care of goons like you."
In Munger's Tarapur constituency, an incident of assault and stone-pelting occurred at booth 227 in the middle school of Tetia Bumper block in Tarapur.Police detained six youths. Tension also erupted during voting in Kishungar village of Kanti constituency in Muzaffarpur district. A clash occurred between NDA candidate Ajit Kumar and his supporters and Abhishek Kumar alias Golu, son of former JD(U) block president and current RJD leader Mahesh Sah. The dispute quickly escalated into violence, resulting in Abhishek sustaining serious injuries.
In another incident, violence broke out in Bariyarpur Mathia village in Motipur police station area of Muzaffarpur. BJP supporter Babulal Mandal Dhanuk was attacked by anti-socials. His wife and daughter, who tried to intervene, were also assaulted.
At Biharsharief in Nalanda, allegations were made against BJP workers for distributing voter slips near booths 226 to 232. Later police detained four BJP workers. BJP candidate Sunil Kumar accused police of "siding with RJD supporter and deliberately harassing BJP workers."
In Vaishali, people threw stones at CAPF soldiers incited by RJD candidate Ravindra Kumar Singh,police said. There was stone-pelting in Jaale constituency of Darbhanga between polling agents of two parties. Police said stones were thrown at polling centre 256 in Katka Panchayat.Two persons were taken into custody....
